In recent weeks, the good folks of Sublette County and LaBarge have been inundated with attack texts, robo-calls, and mailers from out-of-state dark money groups demonizing me and distorting or lying about my voting record when I was in the legislature. During my 12 years in the Wyoming Legislature, I made thousands of votes on bills, amendments, procedural motions and budgets. It is not hard to find a few votes to distort into attack ads. However, these are not disagreements over policy, but an attempt to assassinate my character. These national groups and their puppets want to control politics in Wyoming, but I will not be controlled by DC interests. I work for you, my friends, my family, my neighbors, the good folks of House District 20.

I learned a long time ago, to face the storm and walk into it. I have done that on the ranch, I have done that fighting for the ranching industry, and I have done that in support of the good people of House District 20. I guess I am hardheaded to a fault, but I will always have your back.

I am pro-gun, pro-life, pro-family, pro-mother and child, pro-education, pro-constitution and pro-Wyoming. I will fight for Sublette County and Wyoming’s future prosperity, thriving communities and unique character.

The facts.  

The truth is I supported and voted for the 2024 Parental Rights legislation, SF0009 and HB0092, that was passed ensuring parents are the primary decision makers for their children at school. 

I supported protecting women from men competing in women’s sports and co-sponsored 2024’s  SF0133 - Student eligibility in interscholastic sports to do just that. This bill passed.

The truth is I upheld the Wyoming Constitution by voting against HB0116, Prohibiting foreign property ownership in Wyoming, because the Wyoming Constitution states in Article 1 Section 29 – “No distinction shall ever be made by law between resident aliens and citizens as to the possession, taxation, enjoyment and descent of property.” 

However, I did support protecting critical infrastructure from foreign actors by helping pass 2024’s  SF0077.

I have never voted for motions to pull bills out committee or out of a leader’s drawer, because it circumvents the public process, where the public gets to formally weigh in during public comment in a committee on a bill. I will always support the public’s right to be involved and comment in a public forum. I have always supported the hard decisions that committee chairmen and leaders make on the bills that are brought forward. Time is the enemy in a legislative session, and not every bill can be heard. However, good ideas will return.

The facts behind the attacks from an out-of-state special interest group.

Wyoming voters deserve honest information, not misleading political attacks funded by out-of-state special interests.

In recent weeks, outside groups have spent thousands of dollars trying to distort my record and mislead Wyoming voters. I have never been afraid to stand behind my votes or explain why I cast them. Below are some of the attacks being made against me, along with the facts and the context they intentionally leave out.

SF 117 (2023)

✗Voted against parental Rights in Education copycat bill.

The truth is I supported and voted for, the 2024 Parental Rights legislation, SF0009 and HB0092, that was passed ensuring parents are the primary decision makers for their children at school. These bills passed. The vote on SF117 was a motion to pull that bill from committee, actually to suspend the Rules of the House. I have never voted for motions to pull bills out committee or out of a leader’s drawer, because it circumvents the public process, where the public gets to formally weigh in during public comment in a committee on a bill. I will always support the public’s right to be involved and comment in a public forum. I have always supported the hard decisions that committee chairmen and leaders make on the bills that are brought forward.

SF 51 (2022)

✗Voted against protecting Women's Sports.

The truth is I supported protecting women from men competing in women’s sports and co-sponsored 2024’s  SF0133 - Student eligibility in interscholastic sports to do just that. This bill passed. The vote on SF51 was a vote to pull the bill out of the Speaker’s drawer directly to the floor, once again bypassing the public process. See above.

HB 1 (2023) — Voted for Wasteful State Budget

✗Voted for a wasteful state budget.

Yes, I voted for the budget. It is the Legislatures constitutional duty to approve a responsible BALANCED budget. We did that. I was on the Appropriations Committee earlier in my career, in an economic downturn. In the five budgets (both Supplemental and Biennium) that I was on Appropriations during this economic downturn, we cut nearly $850 million from state government. I view this much like a ranch.  You cut during bad economic times. During good economic times you invest in the ranch or the state and save for the bad times. 

HB 1 (2024) — Voted for Wasteful State Budget

✗Voted for a wasteful state budget that included a $100 million green energy slush fund.

Frankly more BS out of Make Liberty Win. I tried to track through their site what this vote was, and it just takes me to the Supplemental Budget.  I can tell you that I did NOT support a green energy slush fund, but I have voted for an energy fund under the Governor’s discretion to bring energy projects to Wyoming.  I highly doubt any of these were green energy.

HB 138 (2024) — Voted Against Taxpayer Funds for Public TV

✗Voted for taxpayer Funds for Public TV.

This bill appropriated dollars both to the Wyoming public television matching funds account and the state fair endowment account. I support both because they provide real value to rural Wyoming. Public television provides educational programming and emergency information to communities across the state. The Wyoming State Fair remains an important part of our agricultural heritage and supports local communities every year.

SF 61 (2023) — Voted Against Legislator Per Diem Increase

✗Voted for legislator Per Diem Increase.

I did support increasing legislator per diem rates. Those rates had been at $109 per day for years. Per Diem is intended to reimburse legislators for hotel and meal costs during sessions and legislative meetings. $109 was not even covering hotel costs in Cheyenne during sessions, let alone covering meals. This was long overdue and is now tied to the federal per diem. This bill also increased the per diem for all of the members of the appointed boards and commissions. These individuals volunteer their time, but should be adequately compensated for their hotel and meals.

Immigration

HB 116 (2023)

✗Voted against banning China and state sponsors of terrorism from buying land in Wyoming.

The truth is I upheld the Wyoming Constitution by voting against HB0116, Prohibiting foreign property ownership in Wyoming, because the Wyoming Constitution states in Article 1 Section 29 – “No distinction shall ever be made by law between resident aliens and citizens as to the possession, taxation, enjoyment and descent of property.” This bill would have required individuals from foreign adversary countries to actual divest the property that they currently own. I think this might have violated the US Bill of Rights.

However, I did support protecting critical infrastructure from foreign actors by helping pass 2024’s  SF0077.

✗Voted against invalidating drivers licenses issued to illegal immigrants if they are driving in Wyoming.

The vote on SF120 was a motion to pull that bill from committee. I have never voted for motions to pull bills out committee or out of a leader’s drawer, because it circumvents the public process, where the public gets to formally weigh in during public comment in a committee on a bill. I will always support the public’s right to be involved and comment in a public forum. I have always supported the hard decisions that committee chairmen and leaders make on the bills that are brought forward, as time is precious during a session.

HB 17 (2024)

✗Voted for limiting number of fishers allowed in a body of water and tracking them to enforce regulations.

I absolutely supported this bill, and in fact it was my concept brought to me by not only fishing outfitters in Sublette County but the general public. Sublette County rivers are getting overrun by guided boats, mostly out of Jackson. This bill was designed to protect the quality of the fishing experience, the fishery and other aquatic resources and species in this state, by allowing the commission to set limits on the number of commercially guided fishing boats allowed to launch into any river or lake. Since I left the legislature, this bill has passed and has been signed into law.

HB 212 (2023)

✗Voted against review committee to ensure federal laws don't violate state sovereignty or individual liberties.

Yes, I voted against this bill. If the legislature chooses to take up a federal issue and provide comment back through a resolution, nothing is stopping us now. In fact, I have passed a resolution HJ0004. This resolution asked the Feds and Congress to remove the wolf and grizzly bear from the Endangered Species List.  We already have mechanisms to review what the federal government is doing, without the expense of creating another standing committee. This bill was wasteful spending.

Wyoming Deserves Better

Out-of-state political groups are spending heavily to influence Wyoming elections with misleading attacks and half-truths.

I have always been willing to explain my votes, answer tough questions, and stand behind my record. You may not agree with every vote I have cast, but you will always know where I stand and why I made that decision.

I trust Sublette and LaBarge voters to judge me based on my record and the facts, not on attacks funded by out-of-state special interests.
